There are some Sabbaths that leave more than a memory; they leave a message.
Our Seniors Day celebration on Sabbath, September 12, 2026, was one of those special occasions. Under the theme, “Honouring Our Seniors for Their Faith, Wisdom and Legacy,” Apple Creek paused to celebrate a treasured part of our church family, our wonderfully chronologically gifted members!
Psalm 92:14 beautifully declares, “They will still bear fruit in old age; they will stay fresh and green.” I love the expression “still bear fruit.” It reminds us that in God’s kingdom there is no retirement from usefulness. Seasons may change, strength may change, responsibilities may change—but God continues to use willing lives.
Our seniors are living testimonies of that truth.
Behind the Apple Creek we enjoy today are men and women who prayed when circumstances were difficult, served when resources were limited, gave sacrificially, taught our children, mentored our young people, supported the ministry, and remained faithful through changing seasons. We are beneficiaries of seeds they planted years ago.
What a blessing, therefore, to see them celebrated with such love and excellence!
I want to offer a very special commendation to Sister Rose, our Seniors Ministry Leader, and her entire team for the tremendous work they did in planning and coordinating this beautiful experience. The thoughtfulness, warmth, hospitality, fellowship, and attention given to our seniors reflected genuine ministry. Sister Rose and team, job exceptionally well done! Thank you for ensuring that our seniors were not simply recognized but genuinely honoured and loved.
Our hearts were also richly blessed by Dr. David Rogers, who proclaimed the Word of God with power, warmth, clarity, and conviction. Dr. Rogers reminded us through his ministry that God continues to have a purpose for His people in every season of life.
We were further blessed by the musical ministry of the First Filipino SDA Church Seniors Ministry, whose songs of praise added another beautiful dimension to our worship experience. To everyone who participated, prepared, served, provided hospitality, ministered through music, or worked quietly behind the scenes, thank you.
But perhaps Seniors Day should cause all of us to ask a deeper question: What kind of legacy are we building?
One day, if God grants us the years, we too will become the chronologically gifted! The question will not simply be, How long did I live? But what did I leave behind? Whose faith became stronger because I was here? Who learned to pray because they heard me pray? Who came to know Jesus because my life pointed them toward Him?
That is legacy.
To our beloved seniors: Apple Creek honours you. We value you. We need you. We need your prayers, your stories, your wisdom, your counsel, your encouragement, and your continued example of faithfulness.
Keep bearing fruit. Keep telling the story. Keep encouraging the next generation. Keep showing us that walking with Jesus only becomes sweeter as the years go by.
Because when a life remains planted in Christ, age does not cancel purpose; it deepens the testimony.
